Prayer
In childhood's innocence, I knelt to pray,
With dreams and hopes, I'd wish for every day.
For years, my heart held wishes, pure and bright,
But when the moment came, they took their flight.
I prayed for stars to grace my darkest night,
But in the end, they vanished from my sight.
I asked for miracles, both big and small,
Yet when they should arrive, I saw them fall.
The years of longing, faith held close and tight,
Yet dreams eluded me, like birds in flight.
I wondered if my prayers had gone astray,
Or if they'd find their time, another day.
But in this journey, lessons I did glean,
That faith endures, though dreams may not be seen.
For life unfolds in ways we can't foresee,
And sometimes, what we need is not what's free.
So, though my prayers seemed unanswered, it's true,
In time, I found a different path to pursue.
For though I got nothing as I'd conceived,
I found in loss, a chance to be relieved.
SUMMERY
This poem reflects on the experience of a person who, since childhood, had been fervently praying and hoping for various things in life. They held onto their dreams and wishes, believing that their prayers would bring them to fruition. However, as they grew older and faced the moments when their prayers should have been answered, they found themselves disappointed and feeling as though they had received nothing.
The meaning of the poem lies in the realization that life doesn't always unfold as we expect or desire. Sometimes, despite our deepest prayers and efforts, our dreams may not come true in the way we envision. However, the poem suggests that there is still value in this journey. It teaches the lesson that faith and hope can endure, even when our dreams seem out of reach. Sometimes, the path we ultimately take may lead us to unexpected and valuable experiences, even if it's not exactly what we initially prayed for.
In essence, the poem encourages resilience and a willingness to adapt when life doesn't go as planned. It emphasizes the idea that sometimes, what we truly need or what will bring us fulfillment may be different from what we thought we wanted.
